Penmarlam Park - The Fowey Estuary - looking South
Most of the Fowey Estuary is a designated "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty" and is the location of "The Wind in the Willows", as well as book by local authors Daphne du Maurier and Arthur Quiller-Couch (Q). The Estuary is a working harbour and you will see the china clay boats negotiate the narrow channel to the loading docks between up to 2,000 visiting yachts and pleasure boats. It also has an amazing wildlife collection, not least the egrets who add an exotic touch as do the buzzards wheeling overhead.
The Hall Walk which starts in Bodinnick, takes you on a circular tour of the lower estuary through the hamlet of Pont and on to Polruan with spectacular views throughout. On accross the water to Fowey, a little shopping or refreshment perhaps, and back to Penmarlam - a great day out!
